In 2020, a spark ignited a movement. The Frances Thompson Education Foundation was born out of a small fundraiser that aimed to collect $60,000. Our mission was to honor the life and legacy of Frances Thompson, a Black trans woman who fought tirelessly for her community.

As we grew, we recognized the importance of solidifying our mission and clarifying who we serve. To do this, we transitioned our name to the Transgender Education Foundation (TEF). In honor of Frances, the scholarship program carries her name, serving as a reminder of the resilience and strength that is the backbone of our foundation.

With your generosity, we have flourished, becoming a beacon of hope, empowerment, and support for over 50 Black trans students in the past three years. We've managed to disburse over $120,000 directly, touching the lives of these brave individuals as they navigate through their educational paths.

However, the path hasn't been smooth. Over the past year, individual giving has slowed down significantly. The shortcoming in funds has forced our dedicated program staff to contribute from their own pockets to keep our mission alive.
